The Way of Klaz is an advanced set of philosophical, moral, and practical disciplines practiced by Cetians on their homeworld to strengthen, control, and expand their psychic powers, as well as use them carefully and ethically. The Way of Klaz is overseen by its most powerful practitioners, who contemplate its precepts and add to them over time; these elders are known as the Acolytes of Klaz, and are treated essentially as priests who search for new knowledge. They study psychic communication among their own people, as well as that of other psychic peoples, seeking to bring this knowledge to practical application to be used by all Cetians. The Way is taught by the Guardians of Klaz, who may be found across the planet. Guardians of Klaz have access to and usage of the local Pool of Klazik, where practitioners may meditate for the insight needed to control their abilities. Guardians also lead practitioners through rites of passage throughout their lives.
Studying the Way of Klaz is a lifelong practice, and a mark of having been raised on Tau Ceti. Most Cetian parents will not teach the Way of Klaz to a Cetian or half-Cetian child born off the homeworld, either not knowing how (not being a Guardian) or believing the Pools of Klazik to be essential.
Guardians of Klaz[]
Guardians are teachers and practitioners of the telepathic ability that most Cetians demonstrate some aptitude for at an early age, communicating the Discipline of Klaz to young Cetians especially, and providing wisdom and counsel to Cetians throughout their lives. Most Guardians have a natural or learned psychic talent and great discipline; all are classified as psychic level of 3 or 4 by the ERSN when examined.
In recent years the Guardians have become trusted advisors and delegates for handling requests from the Earth Republic. The lack of a central authority on Tau Ceti is sometimes frustrating for Republic officials, which has led to the Guardians taking up positions of "authority" to create a comforting counterpart to Earth Republic ambassadors, delegates and lawmakers.
While a Guardian of Klaz has great respect and may even be an Elder at the same time, Guardians have no actual authority, any more than the Council of Elders does. Their recommendations and observations are valued and weighed carefully by the Council, however, which seems to satisfy Earth Republic leaders. Guardians do not usually act in a public capacity, and it is the habit of Guardians to be discreet.
The Pools of Klazik[]
The Pools of Klazik are underground chambers found throughout the islands of a'Mairuno-mot where students and masters meditate, in order to gain the insight and discipline needed to better control, channel, and variegate their telepathic and other psychic abilities. The Pools are involved in several rites of passage in a Cetian's life, and they are spoken of with emotion by many. Very few humans or other outsiders, including many half-Cetians, have ever seen the Pools of Klazik.
