Based out of Indoc 2's main campus outside Shenzhen, Lin-Nguyen is the premier center for genetic therapies, gene drives, and genetic experimentation on Earth. They have pioneered many technologies, including vast improvements to cloning tech, gestational replicators, and the use of gene drives to alter, save, or resurrect whole species of animals or plant life. It was additionally Lin-Nguyen, working with the Astral Directorate, who pioneered the radiophagic algae that saved a large percentage of Earth from cesium and strontium contamination, and which continue to work on large repositories of radioactive cesium and strontium in North America, Northern Eurasia, and Eastern Asia's radiation hot zones (the former USA, Russian Federation, and People's Republic of China respectively).
The institute was founded by Drs. Xan Lin and Gabi Nguyen of Indoc Center 2, in 2105. Dr. Xan Lin was a renowned Regen and Gene Therapist, trained in orbit around Tau Ceti, for the purposes of managing the genetic alterations and cancers propagating around Earth as radiation contamination was still being managed and mitigated. Dr. Gabi Nguyen specialized in gene drives, cloning, and gene manipulation, bringing several species back from total extinction, especially the much renowned revivals of the North American right whale and the Sei whale.
The Republic Future Patriots Program[]
The 2100s and 2110s were a complicated time, during which science was advancing very quickly, scientific optimism was high, and the planet was changing and improving in front of humanity's eyes, bearing out the Cetians' promises. With a large quantity of resources inundating the Institute for its various lines of work during a hectic and fast-moving period, several projects were approved which would receive much heavier ethical attention during a 2150s-style approval process.
In that ethical void emerged the RFPP, a genetic experimentation and gene drive program spearheaded by Dr. Gabi Nguyen, using her knowledge of gene tech and gene drives to alter individuals in vitro instead of as gametes or in utero. Young orphans or abandoned children left or donated to Indoc 2 were the subjects of the program, its nominal intentions being to improve them for the future of the Republic: to make them stronger, faster, and possess better immune systems and improved longevity. They were raised at Indoc 2 in several special cohorts with an intensive education in physical sports and loyalty to the Republic; some were counseled toward technical jobs, such as doctors or scientists, while others--the most physically fit--were tracked toward the military, particularly AoE, ERSN marine corps, and ERSN starfighters. Bonds between these individuals were intense, as they remained together from toddlerhood all the way up to adulthood, living and eating together as a group apart.
Many RFPP graduates who went into the military, born in the 2110s, served in the Corporate Wars in the 2130s. Many died at that time, while others continued to serve in technical jobs or the military branches. Some, like Samar Kaluna, continued to serve well into the Praezorian Wars and beyond. It is said that RFPP graduates have a curious, almost congenital desire to sacrifice themselves for their fellow citizens and the Republic, but it could simply be nothing more than the indoctrination.
