Starship Valkyrie Wikia
Rigel

A large blue star capable of anchoring a powerful hyperspace portal with a long route, Kor'lana means "Gate to Darkness" in the Den'omu language and borders the Machine Sector. For many years, this star was the last star in the STF, beyond which ships would fly no further. It is 13 LY from Eta Draconis, and the route is treacherous, requiring skilled hyperspace navigators to traverse, no matter how many times it has been traveled. The route is known for "collapses"--areas of the route that seem to fall in, driving ships into higher or lower bands of hyperspace, which must be swiftly escaped. It is also for storms that occasionally make it completely impassable, and skilled hyperspace cartographers, navigators, and experts are required to monitor the route before passage may be attempted. The Den'omu and Flotilla Skelow have determined a periodicity to these storms suggesting a sort of seasonality to them, though a "season" of bad storms can last more than a year.

Though it is far from their typical caravan routes in the frontier sectors, the star has long attracted Flotilla Skelow. It was a renowned Flotilla hyperspace navigator, Taveshi Karaikos, and his ship Shahos, that made the first successful leap into the Machine Sector from here. He was immediately beset by "the Infernal Machine," jumped to dark space, and returned to Kor'lana months later with tales of the menace. Hence the sector rimward of Kor'lana earned its name.

The jump from Kor'lana into the Machine Sector is still an exciting and dangerous one, and in order to get supplies and personnel to Avart, talented hyperspace navigators amass at Kor'lana station to make the jump or help those who run afoul of its treachery.

Kor'lana'ma/Kor'lana Seta[]

Kor'lana e, called Kor'lana'ma in the native Den'omu, is a rocky world in the Goldilocks Zone of Kor'lana. The Skelow and other STF species call this world Kor'lana Seta, as it is the main habitable planet and a Compact world at the edge of the Trade Federation, where traders, merchants, navigators, and speculators gather. The world layers a deep variety of cultures with strong Den'omu influence, and Den'omu dominance in rule and politics. It is known for being by turns beautiful, dangerous, and strange.
